While Quarantine was relaxing in some ways—a lot of netflix, snacking and cooking—it is time to turn up the heat and get our bodies sweating again. Turn to the experts at AKT and 54D Studio for the best of the best when it comes to getting back on track.
Body of Work
Celebrity favorite AKT brings its sweat equity to Miami.
The Bands group class from AKT, which is opening a new studio in Midtown this October
If you’ve seen Kelly Ripa’s abs on social media, you know the woman takes her exercise seriously. That body of hers has a lot to do with AKT, a fitness regimen created by celebrity trainer Anna Kaiser that combines a mix of low-repetition/high-weight modalities to improve muscular strength and high-repetition/low-weight to enhance endurance. The classes—dubbed Dance, Bands, Tone and Circuit, depending on the participant’s choice—are meant for dance lovers and feature loud pop music with choreography that changes every three weeks or so. Now the routine is bound to become Miami’s sweat program of choice when AKT opens its new studio in Midtown this month. The 2,675-square-foot facility will have spaces for both group classes (The Factory) and one-on-one sessions (The Loft), and will adhere to all sorts of new normal safety practices. 3407 NE First Ave., Miami, 305.857.5566, theakt.com
Rodrigo Garduño has made his 54D fitness program global.
Watch & Burn!
Since launching in 2019, former soccer player Rodrigo Garduño’s 54D studio in Coral Gables has become somewhat of a sanctum with die-hard exercise fans. The concept? Give him 54 days and he will change your body, the way you eat and how you think about fitness through a challenging (some say hellish) mix of running, jumping and weight lifting. Now, the routine has gone global with 54D ON (54d-on.com), a nine-week online program that offers the brand’s high-intensity sessions to anyone at any time. Participants are guided with daily tasks and 54D team members monitoring their progress. “We didn’t want to simply create a fitness app,” says Garduño. “This is a comprehensive fitness program with a community component.” A community that includes supermodel Adriana Lima, former MLB slugger Jorge Posada and Colombian singer Juanes so far. Up next for Garduño? A second location in the Design District.
