Katie Sandler brings a personal and holistic approach to mental health.
Odds are most people have never heard of an “impact coach,” and Katie Sandler (katiesandler.com) is well aware of that—after all, she created the term. Between earning a master’s in mental health counseling and a bachelor’s in psychology, Sandler discovered that she wanted to help others in the hopes that they’d pay it forward. Thus, she explains, her current role is designed to “impact the lives of others so they can impact the world.” As part of her practice, she helps individuals feeling stuck, unfulfilled or incomplete to discover their personal and professional capabilities. Twice a year she hosts five-star group retreats to destinations like Italy and Anguilla, sharing wisdom along the way. The rest of the time she’s busy with one-on-one sessions during which she spends three solid days with a client, starting with a visit to his or her home and workplace. Sandler, who was born without an ear, overcame paralysis as a teen and has coped with depression, says getting to the root of personal issues—and accepting them—is paramount to being human: “It’s difficult to ask people to be transparent if I’m not transparent.” Her holistic approach to helping others is paying off in spades. “As [my clients] are more mindful, they’re having a positive impact on their inner circles and the community,” she says. “It’s wonderful to watch.”
