As if taking its cues from Basel, this spring’s Sony Ericsson Open took things way beyond the confines of Key Biscayne with celebrations large and small. At the event’s Player Party at the Epic, DJ Bob Sinclar enticed racquet royals like Caroline Wozniacki and Roger Federer to get jiggy between matches and just enjoy the music... Weeks later, Venus Williams showed her penchant for style at the preview of her re-launched EleVen fashion collection. Williams was all smiles at the party, where she introduced guests, including Gabrielle Union, Lara Shriftman and sister Serena Williams, to the nuances of the garments (we’re talking inspirational handwritten messages on every piece)… Tennis wasn’t on the mind of any of the notable competitors at the Nautica South Beach Triathlon, however. Actors Cristián de la Fuente, James Marsden, Geoff Stults and Jeffrey Donovan ran, swam and biked to help raise nearly half a million dollars for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital… And while it had to cancel its final three matches this year due to inclement weather, the Maserati Miami Beach Polo World Cup wasn’t a complete washout. Rain didn’t dampen spirits at the tournament’s after-party at The Raleigh, where guests hoped for a kinder, drier Mother Nature next year.
