As the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade prepares for its 12th annual Wild About Kids Gala this month, Andres Guilarte will mark the midpoint of his two-year term as the nonprofit’s chair. “At the end of the day, this is for a cause greater than ourselves,” says the native Miamian. “Whatever they need me for, I’ll do.”

Guilarte’s dedication to the organization (which provides after-school programs, homework assistance, professional mentoring and much more for the children in our community who need it the most) goes deep. His mother has volunteered for the cause for three consecutive decades, so he’s been able to see its accomplishments firsthand.

While the married father of a newborn and stepdad to two kids owns Insurance Depot, a full-service insurance agency in South Miami focused on what he calls “values-based leadership,” he still manages to spend countless hours helping the 8,000 local children who depend on the nonprofit. “It’s a safe haven,” says Guilarte. “When kids are there, they can get life advice they may not be getting at home, the most essential being morals, values, integrity, self-confidence, character and principles.”

These lessons, he says, have a ripple effect. “It’s a place that makes the most significant impact on our community and the world.” Nov. 10, 7pm, from $500, JW Marriott Marquis, 255 Biscayne Blvd. Way, Miami, 305.446.9910
