It’s never a dull moment with New York-based fashion designer Anna Sui. Known for her eccentric and eclectic style, Sui takes you back to the days of playing dress-up, and watching the make-believe version of yourself come to life is electrifying. It’s like a dream come true, but in Anna’s world, the dress-up fantasy never ends.
Sui’s Fall/Winter 2021 lookbook serves serious psychedelic, magical vibes – or as the designer calls it, "Phantasmadelic." The collection, seen in the video below, takes escapism and fantasy to a new level, combining all aspects of comfort, class, craziness and creativity.
Sui created this collection as a visual representation of the topsy-turvy 2020.
“I think all of us have been spending so much time on-pause, and we’re all anticipating what’s gonna happen next," Sui says in an Instagram post. "That’s what I wanted to portray. When that black and white moment turns into color ... I started out with black and white, and it explodes into colors like magentas, ambers, turquoise and purple.”
In a world of vibrant materials, patterns and prints, Sui’s FW21 collection easily stands out. According to Vogue, Anna Sui collaborated with different artists who added special detail to the collection. Hand-painted cosmic jeans by Anna Castellano, snake and peacock prints provided by Monica Forsberg, and recycled acetate accessories by Fellow Earthlings for Mondottica are just some of the few featured talents.
Not one to be found within miles of a comfort zone, Sui made use of combining faux cowhide, windowpane tweed plaids, lurex strips and more to create this whimsical collection. It’s so out there, it may never go out of style.
From her cosmetics and nail polish lines to her accessories and clothing collections, not a detail of her style lies amiss. The more you look, the more you find, and the more you're sucked into the world of Anna Sui's wild imagination.
