Beautiful Music

| June 30, 2016 | Parties

THE OCCASION In its 28-year history, the New World Symphony has seen plenty of highs, but the milestone achievement of reaching 1,000 alumni was certainly cause for celebration. This year’s annual gala, named in honor of the accomplishment, certainly did that. THE CROWD Notables were not in short supply at the affair (they never are), with folks like chairs Ana and Neisen Kasdin, Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas, developer Alan Faena and hoteliers Diane and Alan Lieberman in attendance. THE HIGHLIGHTS Never short on “wow” moments, this year’s NWS fundraiser upped the ante with the help of Malcolm McDowell (who plays a conductor in the Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle). The actor served as the party’s emcee and also led the company in a performance of Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance.” After the concert portion of the evening, attendees moved on to dinner, which was marked by musical interludes here and there. Die-hards stayed late into the night for the animated afterparty at the New World Center, where killer dance moves were de rigueur. –Photography by Manny Hernandez, Gregory Reed & World Red Eye
