The 50-seat benefit will assist the Foundation's "Open For Good" initiative, which aims to provide crucial resources to help independent restaurants rebuild their capacity to emerge stronger, more equitable, more sustainable, and more resilient in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The James Beard Foundation honors and supports the people who shape America's food culture while also fighting for new restaurant industry standards to ensure that everyone has a chance to succeed. The Foundation, founded over 30 years ago, has emphasized the importance of food culture in our daily lives and is dedicated to fostering a resilient and thriving business that respects its different populations. The Foundation is working to create a more equitable and sustainable future by raising fresh voices, recognizing those leading the way, and supporting those on the path to do so - what we call Good Food for Good®. The James Beard Foundation developed the Open for Good campaign in response to the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure that independent restaurants survive and rebuild stronger than before.
"COVID-19 changed our industry in so many ways. In the height of it all, there were moments when it felt inescapable, but now cautiously on the other end, I'm forever grateful for the takeaways. During this time, I opened two new restaurants – Forte by Chef Adrianne and Redfish by Chef Adrianne - and moved my flagship Chef Adrianne's Vineyard Restaurant and Bar to a new location. The dizzying amount of pivoting and recalibration that came from COVID-19 helped me arrive at this 15-year milestone with a new perspective. I feel stronger, more motivated, and more resilient than ever; being able to empower this message through giving back is the ultimate privilege."
The meal is a presentation of "New American" cuisine, which Calvo credits as a key component of her well-known Maximum Flavor cooking style. Calvo defines New American cuisine as a "catch-all" word for cuisine that defies categorization and is simultaneously influenced by one or more civilizations. Tuna Tartare with truffled caper cream and crispy wonton; Local Chopped Vegetable Salad with feta topping served with lemon oregano vinaigrette; Grilled Colossal Shrimp with tangy lime butter, guajillo, and pico de gallo; and Calvo's signature 24-hour Braised Short Rib with whipped sweet potato and crispy onion sides are among the five unique courses that pay homage to this vision. The meal will come to a delicious conclusion with a dessert course of Fresh Berry Pavlova topped with thick Madagascar vanilla s Bavarian cream.
The dinner will be hosted at Chef Adrianne's Vineyard Restaurant and Bar on Friday, June 3, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 1715 Sherri Lane, and tickets are available for $199 per person (including tax and gratuity), but there are only 50 tickets available.
