Costume Culture

| April 28, 2016 | Parties

Miamians like to play it loose when it comes to dress codes, but plenty of the 350 guests who attended this year’s The Bass Ball happily adhered to the event’s surrealist black-tie wardrobe suggestion with full-on costumes that celebrated the museum’s creative spirit—we’re talking everything from Adrienne bon Haes’ light-installation dress to Suzy Buckley Woodward’s ice-princess gown.

Chaired by Criselda Breene, Diane Lieberman, Soledad Picón, Tui Pranich and Inés Rivero, the evening attracted a who’s who of VIPs and arts patrons, including designer Naeem Khan; hotelier Alan Faena and his wife, Ximena Caminos; and Miami Beach commissioners Joy Malakoff, Kristen Rosen Gonzalez and Michael Grieco.

After an animated cocktail hour, attendees moved to the dining room of the tent set up for the occasion for a supper during which Bass director Silvia Karman Cubiñá revealed three major financial gifts, including one for $1 million by the president of the museum’s board, George Lindemann. The evening concluded with a performance by artist Athi-Patra Ruga in which he and other dancers emerged from an installation of popping balloons. -Photography by Manny Hernandez & World Red Eye
