Designer Davidor Gusky brings his architectural flair for jewelry to Miami.
Jewelry designer (and Miami native) Davidor Gusky
Well-known to Bergdorf Goodman, Betteridge, Hamilton Jewelers and Moda Operandi shoppers, Davidor is beloved and admired for its architectural approach to jewelry. Founder and Miami native Davidor Gusky doesn’t get his point across with carat extravagance, but rather with a mix of gold, diamonds and other precious stones and lacquered ceramic in bangles, rings and pendants that nod to his favorite shape, the arch. This holiday season and through mid-January (perhaps longer), the designer is testing Miami’s retail waters with a pop-up at Bal Harbour Shops that will introduce (or reacquaint) consumers with the brand, one that seems tailor-made for our city, thanks to its creator’s love of color and art deco aesthetics.
You could have opened your first U.S. pop-up anywhere in the country. Why did you choose Bal Harbour Shops? Bal Harbour Shops has always represented a level of luxury and a lifestyle experience that allows the shopper to shop, dream and feel inspired by nature.
You’re taking over the former Santa Maria Novella space on the second level. Any reason for that? The space is like a jewel box. It’s small, cozy and it makes you want to go in and discover the product.
What will visitors encounter as far as the look of the space? It will incorporate our maison’s DNA by highlighting our strong Bordeaux palette and playing with the ambiance of the tropical surroundings.
What can we expect in terms of inventory? It will consist mainly of two lines. L’Arc de Davidor is our signature collection of bangles, rings, earrings and necklaces with pendants in 18K rose, yellow and white gold with 16 unique colors and lacquered ceramic and four patterns of diamonds. It features the repetitive arch pattern, which is deeply rooted in French and Italian architecture. L’Arc de Voyage, which is exclusively bracelets and necklaces, is inspired by travel and what you see when you look through the arch. Those pieces are available in 18K rose and white gold with diamonds and precious stones on a chain or silk cord. There will also be some high jewelry bangles and earrings that speak to the art deco style and the architectural French gardens.
Any exclusives? Yes. L’Arc de Voyage has been expanded with some pieces that are not offered at any other Davidor retailer.
Some of your bracelets are large enough to fit men’s wrists. Was that a conscious move? Yes, I see the L’Arc de Davidor collection as unisex and the signature bangles come in sizes from 16 to 21 centimeters, so they’re a great option for men or women.
Why is the arch such an influential symbol to you? I am enamored with the beauty and purity of the shape. Each arch tells its own story. The arches of Place Vendôme, the arches of the arcades of Rue de Rivoli, the ones in the villas of Portofino and Capri... each arch highlights the structure’s soul.
Does your Miami upbringing also influence your work? Yes. Being raised in South Florida, I am influenced by the constant sunshine, tropical landscapes and vibrant colors. I find color to be a very stimulating way to express different stories within fine jewelry.
What’s next for Davidor? Creatively, we are working on exciting new products, fine and high jewelry, as well as some other categories we strongly believe in. Davidor’s deep architectural roots and arch lens provide me with constant inspiration. 9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour, 305.397.8481
