Designer Lori Morris (lorimorris.com) has made a career out of creating homes that capture the essence of elegance and adapt it into the narrative of the space. And that was exactly the approach a Canadian couple was seeking for its oceanfront South Florida pied-a-terre, a top-floor residence in one of Bal Harbour’s luxury high-rises.
The kitchen in the residence features rose shades with golden tones and brass textures in the form of framing, fixtures and stools. Much of the furniture here and the nearby dining room was customized by Lori Morris Design.
The living room features velvet upholstery on the sofas and ottomans, as well as floral motifs, most noticeably in the crystal chandelier.
For Morris, the task at hand was clear from the get-go: “Create glamour with the ease of Southern coastal living using a sorbet color palette inspired by the sunset to complement the apartment’s water views.” The key? Incorporating the ideal shade to achieve the desired tone.
A view to the foyer reveals a custom built-in banquette in pink velvet.
“Pink has always been my go-to neutral,” says Morris. “That’s because of its soft feeling and its ability to infuse a soothing warmth and sexy, sophisticated [ambiance] into any room.”
To that end, demure shades of rose permeate all 3,000 square feet of the space. In the kitchen, the hue is balanced by golden touches and brass textures. High-gloss cream-and-pink cabinetry (custom made by Lori Morris Design) strikes a modern feel that complements ornate crown molding and art deco-inspired patterns on the island, cupboards and drawers. “The kitchen is the perfect little jewel box,” says Morris. “It’s the heartbeat of the home.”
Cohesively nearby is the dining room, where one encounters more LMD custom work (including the dining table and chairs) and clear sight lines that, as the designer puts it, “create an ethereal connection with the sea and sky, feeling as though you’re floating in graceful elegance.”
Textures and colors were carefully considered in the principal bedroom, where sand and seashell tones are prevalent.
Equally refined is the living room, where water references in the form of swirly patterns, fabrics and lamp bases nod to Morris’ love of nature. Adding to the charm are sofas covered in pink velvet, ottomans with a mirror top and white fur trim, and a crystal chandelier with a floral motif.

The blush palette takes a break in the principal bedroom in favor of tones in the sand and seashell color wheel. Here, florals command a repeat performance in the wallpaper, the bouquet-inspired chandelier, the two sconces that flank the bed and even the custom throw pillows. The end result is what Morris calls a “sumptuous refuge of sophisticated majesty.” Words to live by in every corner of this home.
