Flavia Llizo is no stranger to community involvement, as evident through her work at Jackson Health Foundation and with Guardian Angels, a volunteer group within the foundation. The organization, a philanthropic group that raises money to support Holtz Children’s Hospital, hosted its 23rd annual Guardians of the Children luncheon and fashion show raising $590,000 to support areas at Holtz Children’s Hospital. Marking the organization’s 30th anniversary, Llizo shares what the organization means for the children it impacts and what she hopes the future brings. 1500 NW 12th Ave., Ste. 1117, Miami, jacksonhealthfoundation.org

How has the organization evolved over the past 30 years?
For the past three decades, the foundation has worked tirelessly to fundraise to support the safety, health and well-being of the young patients at Jackson’s Holtz Children’s Hospital. As we reflect on 30 years, the members have raised over $38 million supporting projects like renovations of cancer and organ transplant patient units, where pediatric patients from the Miami Transplant Institute recover after life-saving organ transplants. The impact on the patients and families throughout the years is remarkable.
What does the organization mean to you?
The Guardian Angels have played a critical role over the last 30 years with their support of Holtz Children’s. I was so inspired by their passion that I became a Guardian Angel three years ago. I am proud of the work being done to help ensure young patients at Holtz Children’s receive the best care possible.
What does this year mean to you?
It’s symbolic of the commitment of our members—30 years of continuous support, love and compassion for our tiniest of patients. I am proud to be a part of an organization with these incredible supporters who continue to pour their hearts into the Guardian Angels year after year.
What do you hope to see in the future?
Every year we see a generous act that reinforces and supports the human side of what we do. We have so much to offer with the nurses, doctors and specialists, combined with the technology that allows us to grow and evolve to deliver our care. I hope our footprint continues to grow to support our community. I have no doubt we will continue to break barriers and provide continued support for patients at Holtz Children’s Hospital for years to come.
