Flower Power

| April 7, 2016 | Parties National

In its 23rd year, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s annual Gala in the Garden remains a social calendar must—and the more than 400 philanthropists and community leaders who attended this year’s event certainly solidified that point.

Co-chaired by Swanee DiMare, Frances Sevilla-Sacasa and Joyce Burns, the evening was a who’s who of well-known Miami altruists. Among the longtime Fairchild supporters in attendance were Lou and Mary Jean Risi, Bunny Bastian, Kenneth O’Keefe and Jason Stephens.

The evening lived up to its Starry, Starry Night theme with decor at the Lakeside Marquee that included everything from star-shaped light installations to moss-covered faux trees. As the evening got underway, board of trustees President Bruce Greer and sponsor Paul DiMare both spoke about the park’s recent accomplishments, and Angela Whitman was honored for her longtime support of Fairchild’s educational programs. After much mingling, a dinner by Le Basque and dancing to tunes by the Soul Survivors Orchestra, guests were sent home with orchid blooms meant to remind them of the night for months to come. -Photography by Allison Diaz
