THE OCCASION Speculation about Miami magazine’s December issue reaches its crescendo around October when inquiries about “the Basel cover,” as the volume has come to be known, begin to pop up regularly. To celebrate the popular art-themed edition, the magazine gathered a varied group of readers, clients and friends of the publication for an evening of bites, cocktails and creative mingling at The Surfcomber hotel. THE CROWD Hosted by Editor-in-Chief Luis R. Rigual, the party celebrated the individuals featured in the issue’s main feature, including artist Jillian Mayer and PAMM director Franklin Sirmans. In attendance, and as gregarious as ever, was the man responsible for the aforementioned cover, artist Magnus Sodamin, and the gallerist who helped to make it all come together, Primary Projects’ Books Bischof. THE HIGHLIGHTS The evening served as a primer to Art Week, and, as such, it was a low-key enough affair. After welcome remarks by Rigual and Sodamin, guests perused the magazine as they mingled. Hours later, attendees left with their collectible issues in hand... and plans for Basel in check. –Photography by Brett Hufziger
