Low-key yet exclusive is the best way to describe the recent dinner given by The Wolfsonian-FIU’s founder Micky Wolfson and Director Cathy Leff to honor architect Rene Gonzalez for his recent recognitions and accomplishments. These include a 2011 National AIA Award for the design of the Alchemist boutique at the 1111 Lincoln Road building, a Miami AIA Award for the Bilzin Residence, and Gonzalez’s most recent commission, a boutique hotel in Guatemala. There to partake in the festivities were Marianne Goebl (the new director of Design Miami/), Walid and Susie Wahab, Robert Wennett, Mario Cader-Frech and author Alastair Gordon. Floral arrangements from Karla Conceptual Event Experiences and catering by Shiraz meant no detail was overlooked. Dinner took place in the garden of an Indian Creek home (designed by Gonzalez himself) once described by The Wall Street Journal as a “$60 million dream house.”
