The Party
With his signature white fedora, real estate magnate Alan Faena is a dashing figure who’s becoming rather ubiquitous in Miami’s well-heeled social circles. The man was as gregarious as ever at his Art Basel dinner to celebrate the progress of his Faena District development and the creative minds who are making it happen.
The Crowd
Among those breaking bread in the name of five-star realty were film director Baz Luhrmann (whom Faena has tapped to oversee the hotel aspect of Faena District), (camera-shy) actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, hotelier André Balasz, candy queen Dylan Lauren and Paddle8 founder Alexander Gilkes.
The Highlights
Held at the Faena Collaboratory (a pavilion that serves as Faena District’s headquarters), the evening had all its aspects in check. A massive art installation by Gonzalo Fuenmayor and Manuel Ameztoy delighted guests with its immersive nature. Dinner was a caloric extravaganza of good taste thanks to the efforts of chef Francis Mallman, who created a traditional Argentinean asado (barbecue) on open fires. And, as the evening came to an end and guests departed, 300-plus VIPs went home with visions of South Beach’s vibrant future in their heads. –Photography by David Prutting/Billy Farrell Agency
