THE OCCASION We know Miami’s Venezuelan community is a force to be reckoned with, and the expats proved it at the recent I Love Venezuela Gala, a black-tie fundraiser for Fundana and Autismo en Voz Alta, two charities based in Caracas that help low-income children gain access to education and seek treatment for autism, respectively. THE CROWD Can you say chic? Attendees—Venezuelan and otherwise—donned their black-tie best at Ice Palace Studios for an evening of music, art and mingling. Among those making the rounds were former New York Yankees player Jorge Posada, TV presenter Boris Izaguirre, actor Aar√≥n Diaz, singer Lola Ponce and newscaster Enrique Acevedo. THE HIGHLIGHTS Hosted by Rodner Figueroa, Geraldine Pulido and Santi Chumaceiro, the evening hit all the right marks with a cocktail hour enhanced by an art exhibition, much mingling and a performance by Venezuela’s own Chino y Nacho. The event’s most poignant moment was the presentation of the Spirit Award, which this year was handed to Maickel Melamed, a motivational speaker and financing coach who’s made international headlines for being a long-distance runner despite his battle with muscular dystrophy. –Photography by Matea Michellangeli & Paul Perdomo
