As of press time, Jia, a Chinese dinner club concept from hospitality entrepreneur Ken Ray, was making a strong case for locals’ favorite. Its South-of-Fifth location in Miami Beach was a sure giveaway and so was its menu by executive chef Weng Choon “William” Lai, a pro who likes to impress taste buds with dishes such as honey-roasted pork, which uses white wine as the star ingredient instead of the traditional Chinese rice wine. Other Cantonese-style bites include crispy mushroom salad, black truffle sticky rice, short rib dumplings and Alaskan cream egg. As far as ambiance goes, there’s plenty of it thanks to Casa Conde’s high-energy design aesthetic, one that fuses Chinese, art deco and tropical touches with rather understated aplomb. 808 First St., Miami Beach, 786.206.1063, jiamiami.com
