For NBA forward Kevin Love (@kevinlove) and model Kate Love (@katelove), keeping track of their busy schedules while jetting between homes in the Hamptons and Miami takes serious strategy. The juggle is real now that the power couple has welcomed a new baby to the family. We checked in with the Miami Heat star and Love Kate (@lovekateinc) founder to hear how they balance parenthood, prioritizing and philanthropy.

HOW HAS LIFE SHIFTED SINCE BECOMING A MOM? DO YOU FIND YOURSELF LOOKING AT PROJECTS DIFFERENTLY IN TERMS OF PRIORITIES?
KATE: Everything has shifted. I’m still working out and finding the new me at four months postpartum. Although it was very stressful being due with our baby during the NBA Finals, I think it worked out the best that Kevin could be home with our baby girl and me for the last three months before the season started again. We are lucky that we got a lot of cozy family time before returning to the chaos of the NBA season. Now that Kevin is back to work and we’re a little bit more settled in our routines, I’m also excited to get back to work myself.

KEVIN: I’m in my 16th year in the NBA, so I’ve had time to learn balance on and off the court. We are always on the move, so every holiday season presents its share of challenges, but I set my intentions and make sure it’s family first.
HOW ARE YOU CARVING OUT TIME FOR SELF-CARE, AND WHAT ENERGIZES YOU THESE DAYS?
KATE: I’ve been very rigid with making sure that I get outside every single day. Again, I think I’m lucky that I had the baby at the beginning of the summer and was able to enjoy the warm summer months with a newborn and then head back to Miami for the fall and winter. The baby, puppy and I have daily walks. It’s really important for me and both of them to get outside and get some fresh air every day. I often use that time to call a friend and catch up or whatever I need. That mental release is essential. I seem to be in the stage where all of my friends are pregnant or having babies, so I have a lot of new moms to talk about every little thing with. It’s nice to connect with friends and have someone to talk to who’s going through the same thing. I’ve also been making sure I get out and work out every day, whether in the gym at home, a Pilates or yoga class, or with a trainer. Knowing I’m doing something to better myself and my body makes me feel good and inspired.

YOU HAVE SUCH AN IMPECCABLE SENSE OF STYLE. HAS IT BEEN FUN TO WARDROBE THE BABY?
KATE: Styling the baby is so much fun, although she does grow out of some of her favorite pieces quicker than I wish. Luckily, brands like Zara, H&M and Gap make really cute, trendy pieces for kids that aren’t too expensive and are nicely made. I love working on her little wardrobe and picking out pieces that she can also grow into. I can’t wait for all the holidays and all her little holiday outfits to come!
HAS YOUR WORKOUT OR BEAUTY ROUTINE SHIFTED SINCE BECOMING A MOM?
KATE: I’m unfortunately learning quickly that having my hair out will be tough with a baby. She always somehow grabs my hair and takes some with her. I’m figuring out some pony or bun looks because I’d love to keep as much hair as possible.
I’m trying to get ready as quickly as I can in the morning to be with her, starting with a quick face cleanse, applying my skincare, sunscreen, a little concealer, a little blush and lip balm. I’ll share some ‘get ready with me’ videos on TikTok and Instagram soon.
THE KEVIN LOVE FUND (KEVINLOVEFUND.ORG) FOCUSES ON IMPROVING CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH—MAINLY IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL. HAS BECOMING A DAD STRENGTHENED YOUR WORK IN THIS SPACE?
KEVIN: It’s given me a different perspective. I realize many conversations surrounding mental health in young people are very important to address with my daughter. I want to ensure she is educated and has the tools to be healthy in body and mind—and in doing so, be able and willing to help others.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS HOLIDAY? ANY FAVORITE HOLIDAY TRADITIONS, FOODS OR EVENTS?
KEVIN: Always the food and wine. The commonality in both and shared experience makes it the best part of every holiday season for me. Bring out the old classics and family cookbook.

WHAT DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN IT COMES TO HOLIDAY DOWNTIME?
KEVIN: Being with my closest friends and family, and again sharing food and wine, giving gifts, throwing on the old holiday movie classics and taking many photos to capture the feeling of that particular season.
ANY UPCOMING TRAVEL PLANS?
KEVIN: None as of now. I’ll be traveling with the Heat for the foreseeable future. Ask me when the season is over (hopefully, not until June).
