Kate S. Lagos is stepping out of the shadow of her lauded jewelry-designer father, Steven Lagos, with the recent launch of the KSL collection. Here, the brand stylist and event coordinator of the fine jeweler talks about reinterpreting LAGOS’ (lagos.com) classic Caviar designs for a new generation of women.

How did this collection come about? About two years ago, I came to my dad and showed him this geometric, architectural silhouette that I found intriguing. He suggested we collaborate on a collection, and, from there, he helped me expand that shape into an entire assortment.
What makes KSL a more youthful take on the famed Caviar designs? KSL is more about attitude and personal style than age. It’s a two-tone collection—18K gold and sterling silver—with two distinct looks: One is more linear and open; the other is solid with a diamond component; and both layer well together.
What was it like working with your father? Working with my dad was pretty special. My dad is a good teacher since he’s been doing this for over 40 years. If anything, I’d say I got frustrated with myself at times, and he encouraged me to take a step back and be more positive.
