THE PARTY
For all its nighttime shenanigans, Miami loves daytime celebrations just as much. Proof of this could be seen at the most recent Splendor in the Garden luncheon and fashion show held at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in conjunction with Neiman Marcus at Village of Merrick Park.
THE CROWD
More than 350 guests attended the event. Among those were Miami’s most dedicated philanthropists, including co-chairs Swanee DiMare and Frances Aldrich Sevilla-Sacasa as well as Raphael Bastian, Yolanda Berkowitz, Donna E. Shalala, Katherine Fernandez Rundle and Jennifer Valoppi. The man of the hour, however, was none other than Ken Downing, the national fashion director of Neiman Marcus.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
After a cocktail reception and then a Le Basque-catered lunch, Fairchild COO Nannette Zapata welcomed the crowd and spoke about the park’s recent accomplishments. Then came the afternoon’s signature fashion show, curated by Downing and highlighting his favorite spring 2015 looks for both men and women. The soiree’s most charming touch? The chic flip-flops handed to the ladies after the show so they could comfortably explore Fairchild’s lush acres of flora before heading home. –Photography by Allison Diaz
