Miami City Ballet Heats Up Black-Tie Season with a Man of La Mancha-Themed Gala

Black-tie season shifts into high gear this month, and prime among all those soirees is the Miami City Ballet Gala. This year’s fundraiser has a new location—the Sunset Vista Ballroom of the renovated Miami Beach Convention Center—as well as a Man of La Mancha theme thanks to a performance of Marius Petipas’ grand Don Quixote ballet set to Ludwig Minkus’ just-as-grand score. MCB’s troupe of dancers will bring Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s story (widely considered to be the world’s first novel) to life with matadors, mantillas and castanets galore (curtain goes up at 10PM sharp). As far as other highlights go, there is likely to be a stirring speech from Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez, as well as the presentation of the Chairman’s Award for Leadership in Arts Education to Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber. After that, bow ties loosen up, guests hit the dance floor with the aforementioned MCB performers, and the party goes late into the night. March 14, 7PM, tickets from $1,500, tables $15,000-$100,000, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, 305.929.7000
