Miami City Ballet is kicking off the spring season with three world premieres under the steadfast artistic direction of Lourdes Lopez. Concluding its 37th season of dance, Miami City Ballet welcomes new Executive Director Juan José Escalante to the team. Presenting an ever-ambitious spring season, April’s triple-packed Fresh & Fierce bill caters to all dance lovers. Performances include Jerome Robbins’ West Side Story and George Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15 set to Mozart and Sentimento, a new commission by alumnus Durante Verzola set to music composed by Ernesto Lecuona. This spring, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts presents an action-packed lineup paying homage to Miami’s beautiful and diverse community. On April 5, SonLokos will heat up the dance floor with an incredible performance that combines traditional Cuban rhythms like Afro-Cuban and timba with elements of hip-hop, electronic, rap and more. Cuban singer-songwriter Issac Delgado will also be presenting his new project, Con Tumbao, to Miami, playing a repertory that speaks a familiar language in many accents. The incredibly talented and award-winning ensemble welcomes everyone to dance along as they celebrate the essential ingredient that urges hips to sway.
