In just four short years, the Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series has become a must in South Florida’s January agenda. The fact that the gathering is a people-watcher’s dream thanks to the copious socialites with their outrageous fascinators on full display and luminaries like Vin Diesel, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez in attendance hasn’t hurt.

Pandemic or not, this year’s equestrian showcase is scheduled to take place once again. For the uninitiated, that means a Kentucky Derby-light experience that lasts all day with two races bookending the experience. The Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational takes the course for 1 3/16 miles and offers a $1 million purse. The main event, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational, runs the dirt at 1 1/8 miles and the winner takes home $3 million, plus automatic entry into the 2021 Saudi Cup, where the top prize is $20 million.

As important as the races is the social component of the event and where you watch the action from. Once again, organizers have partnered with LIV nightclub for the LIV Stretch Villa, a courted-off area of VIP cabanas with front-row seats that offer up to 10 guests a private setting as well as gourmet food and beverage service. The festivities begin at 9AM. Jan. 23, Gulfstream Park, 901 N. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach, 833.464.7924, pegasusworldcup.com
