In South Florida, we’re lucky enough to have one of the greatest backdrops one could desire—the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean set against the soft white sands of our pristine beaches. Utilizing this backdrop as a focal point of her picturesque palette, Sarah Zohar of Sarah Z Designs crafted the ultimate oceanfront oasis at a private residence in Surfside’s Solimar development. Inspired by the beauty surrounding the stunning property, Zohar worked with her client to incorporate natural elements into the design— keeping it clean and neutral, yet striking upon entry.

“The apartment sits along the eastern seaboard in Bal Harbour, so the design concept was to incorporate the exterior of nature into the interior of the apartment,” she notes.

Maintaining a transitional design with elements of biophilic design, the home incorporates the use of natural woods, creams and grays with accent touches of blue and gold.

“We tried to mimic the color of the sand in the wallcovering by Maya Romanoff behind the unit along the entire living room wall,” Zohar continues. “We pulled sand colors in the TV unit sitting in the great room as well as the pillows, chairs and rug in the living room. We carry those colors throughout the apartment with porcelain flooring, which was a sandlike color, while incorporating shades of walnut and dark stone in the kitchen.”

The kitchen features an open concept with integrated appliances that create a clean, sleek space, highlighted by floor-to-ceiling windows that grant views of the ocean.

“These design elements closed the gap between functionality and aesthetics, creating a fluid experience for our client to improve the coherence between the kitchen and the rest of the home,” says Zohar.

Other noteworthy elements of the property include its bathrooms, which feature bold design elements and deep colors palettes. In the primary bathroom, you’ll find a sleek white space with bold blue accent tones from a beautiful piece of art.
“The blue wall in the master bathroom is an Alex Turco acrylic panel that gives the illusion of water with a raised texture.”
