Scents and Sensibility

| December 27, 2011 | Parties

Just moments after landing in Miami, fashion legend Diane von Furstenberg tweeted: “Arrived in Miami, the city of optimism and fun.” And at the launch party for her new fragrance, Diane, at the DVF salon of Saks Fifth Avenue in Bal Harbour Shops, Miami returned the love. More than 600 guests came out to meet the admittedly jet-lagged von Furstenberg, who was full of anecdotes and quips. “I’ve had two careers, one in my early 20s and one now,” she said as flashes clicked and iPhones taped. “I invented this little nothing dress that rocked a lot of bodies, but I really didn’t know what I wanted. Eventually I realized that all I wanted was to be independent and I became that independent woman through clothes.” Upon realizing she hadn’t mentioned a single word about her new perfume, she simply shrugged and uttered, “What can I tell you? It smells nice. Buy it.” Photography by Brett Hufziger
