Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 Concert

| July 20, 2011 | Calendar

Hennessy Presents Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 in concert on Friday, July 29th. A Rhythm Foundation production. Fela Kuti fathered the musical movement Afrobeat and its crown prince, 27-year-old Seun Kuti. The Nigerian singer is now leading his father’s legendary band, Egypt 80. He’s added some American influences to his music but kept his songs sharply pointed and political. Kuti describes Afrobeat, the music that his father created and named, as the sound that raised him. He grew up listening to it everyday, and his father took him and his siblings to all his shows. When asked how to describe the sound of Afrobeat, Kuti says, “It’s the truth. One word. Afrobeat is the truth.”
