There are many skincare treasures to discover on the first floor of Saks Fifth Avenue at Bal Harbour Shops these days. The department store recently dedicated its first level exclusively to beauty as part of an ongoing renovation, and among the new additions is the Skinney Medspa, twin sisters Adriana and Marisa Martino’s Miami outpost of their popular New York venue.
Before you start to think of a spa-within-a-shop concept, know that Skinney is a comprehensive clinic (designed by Ornare’s Jonathas Valle) with two treatment rooms and an open-air consultation area, and the Martinos are the real thing.

“We both grew up obsessed with the anti-aging world,” says Adriana. “I remember being so fascinated looking through my mom’s medicine cabinet at all her skincare products. I knew this industry was for me.”
After a stint with an Orlando plastic surgeon and all the schooling necessary to obtain the required licenses in their field, the two landed in New York and by 2010 launched the first Skinney Medspa in a doctor’s office on Park Avenue. They now boast three such venues in Manhattan, including one inside the original Saks on Fifth Avenue.
True to the others, the Bal Harbour Shops location specializes in high-tech, noninvasive skin treatments, cosmetic and body contouring procedures, skin tightening, cellulite reduction, stretch mark solutions and laser hair removal. Beauty insiders consider Skinney among the top five providers of CoolSculpting (the procedure that targets body areas for permanent fat cell reduction) and the top provider of EmSculpt (a body contouring treatment that stimulates muscle tissue to tone muscles) in the world.
“We customize each treatment protocol,” says Marisa. “Not every skin responds the same, and because of that, we tailor our services to each of our clients.”
The medspa is also one of a handful in Miami to offer Biologique Recherche facials and the only one to provide the French beauty brand’s skin analysis using special tools that determine what products are best for a person based on their skin’s DNA.
As for the Marinos’ own favorite treatments, Marisa is a CoolSculpting convert while Adriana is EmSculpt’s best spokesperson: “Post-baby, my abs separated a bit and EmSculpt fixed that,” she says. “Now, living in Miami, always in a bikini, EmSculpt is like an instant butt lift. Each session is like doing 20,000 situps or squats.” 9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour, 212.754.6639, skinneymedspa.com

INSIDE AND OUT
Looking good, feeling good. So goes the unofficial mantra at the Privée Clinic slated to open this spring on Brickell. Led by Dr. Bankole Johnson, a licensed and board-certified physician and psychiatrist, the new center focuses on individualized treatments to optimize brain health, wellness and, yes, aesthetics. As Dr. Bankole puts it, “It is a comprehensive, one-of-a-kind approach to enhance health and beauty from the inside out, optimize vigor and prevent illness.” On the beauty end is the clinic’s EmSculpt Neo body-shaping treatment, which eliminates fat and promotes muscle growth in 30-minute sessions. The initial treatment consists of four separate sessions per body part, which, depending on the patient’s choice, can include abdomen, arms, buttocks, calves or thighs. These sessions are scheduled at monthly intervals or as needed. On a different note but just as important are Privée’s menu of brain-health therapies. These include transcranial magnetic stimulation in which a noninvasive magnetic field is used to cause electric currents in a specific area of the brain; hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment; infrared light therapy, which helps cells regenerate themselves to improve circulation; and other procedures such as genomic testing, IV vitamin therapy, nutrition coaching and psychological counseling. 1395 Brickell Ave., Ste. 200, Miami, 305.396.6993, privee-clinics.com
