Standing Ovation

| July 10, 2013 | Parties National

THE OCCASION Nearly 400 guests flocked to the annual gala for the Adrienne Arsht Center, which proved to be one of the most successful ones in recent years thanks to a performance by Harry Connick Jr. and a monetary gift of stratospheric proportions. THE GUESTS Namesake Adrienne Arsht was all smiles as she greeted a slew of board members, chairs, culture fans and philanthropists. Among those were restaurateur Barton G. Weiss, Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, developer Jorge Pérez and actor Christian Slater. THE SCOOP The performance by Connick Jr. aside, the big moment of the evening came when Paul and Swanee DiMare announced their $1 million gift to the Center in response to an anonymous challenge gift. Bragging rights are forthcoming when the Knight Concert Hall is renamed in their honor. Photography by Manny Hernandez & Justin Namon/World Red Eye
