Suitsupply’s newest program offers all the satisfaction of custom without the long wait.
Bespoke sartorial experiences are one of fashion’s most indulgent treats, but rarely are they a speedy affair. Leave it to Suitsupply to disrupt that system. The retailer recently launched a new custom program that allows men to create a suit from scratch with a turnaround time of about three weeks or less.
The process at the store takes approximately one hour, with suggestions given from start to finish. After color and fit are picked comes the choosing of everything else: number and color of buttons, type of lining (full for more formal suits, half for lighter suits and none for suits meant for summer), type of stitching along the jacket’s lapel, belt loops or no belt loops, waistcoat or no waistcoat, slack cuffs or regular leg, an extra pair of slacks or just one, monogramming on the jacket’s lining or beneath the collar, type of font for said monogram—the options are varied and cover both demure and daring tastes.
“The level of customization can get intensive, and it all depends on the customer,” says Chayanne Muñoz, the custom program specialist at Suitsupply’s Brickell City Centre location. “I have guys who consider everything and take their time with the selections and others who breeze through the process. It’s all up to them.”
Options include 1,000- plus British and Italian fabrics from Europe’s most renowned mills, and fits including the Washington, Lazio, Havana, Sienna and Napoli ensure all body types are covered. Those familiar with customization can start the process online and come to the store for sizing or, if already in the brand’s system and familiar with the fit of Suitsupply garments, simply click “buy.” Fourteen to 21 days later when the piece arrives, a fitting at the store ensures everything is up to par, and minor alterations are made on-site.
