The Million Orchid Project

| June 16, 2017 | Calendar

In synergy with the Million Orchid Project, the ongoing effort by Miami’s Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to grow one million rare, native orchids and reintroduce them to South Florida’s urban spaces, Miami Design District, Island Planning Corporation, and True Tree Service, have collaborated to create a blooming ecosystem of rare epiphytes in the heart of Miami. We invite you to join Miami Design District officials and Fairchild staff on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. for a ceremonial planting to launch the two-year program to plant over 2,000 native orchids in trees and plots in select urban areas. While previous plantings involved municipalities and schools, The Miami Design District is the first neighborhood destination to partner with Fairchild in the Million Orchid Project.

The ceremony will be followed by happy hour at OTL to celebrate the landmark moment. Guests are also encouraged to visit the Market #atMDD located in Jungle Plaza from 4pm to 9pm which will feature Fairchild’s STEMLab. STEMLab is a decommissioned school bus transformed into a state-of-the-art botanical propagation lab that gives visitors the opportunity to participate in the Million Orchid Project.
