The Party Politic

| September 28, 2015 | Parties

THE SCENE Miami politics can be as contentious as anywhere else in the country, but all House of Cards-type shenanigans were on hold as the annual Mayor’s Ball took place at the InterContinental. On the agenda? Hand-shaking, dancing and serious fundraising. THE CROWD Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and his wife, Lourdes, welcomed some 1,000 of the city’s most influential leaders in business, government and philanthropy. Among those making the rounds were Florida East Coast Industries CEO Vincent Signorello, banker Leonard Abess and his wife, Jayne; philanthropists Jeff and Yolanda Berkowitz; and many others. THE HIGHLIGHTS With live music by The Chase Band and a surprise drum performance by the Junkanoo Band, the party kept politicos on their feet late into the night. By evening’s end, the ball had raised $1 million for the United Way of Miami-Dade.
