The restaurant offers an exclusive private wine-tasting room, library, and Distinctive Decor that Evokes Old Hollywood Glamour with a Touch of Art Deco in the Tropics. Timpano has been a mainstay on the city's eponymous Boulevard for more than two decades, and with a capacity of 292, it's reopening its doors. The redesigned Timpano will include a daring new take on contemporary dining, catering to visitors who desire to be surrounded by refinement while enjoying a menu that is up to date and draws inspiration from culinary traditions.
Michael Ferraro, Vice President of Food & Beverage at Tavistock Restaurant Collection, oversaw the meticulous redesign of the menu, which will be carried out by Executive Chef Omar Lorenzana and Corporate Pastry Chef Stuart Whitfield. Over the past year, Chefs Ferraro and Stuart, who had previously worked together in the kitchens of several New York City restaurants, collaborated to produce the menu. This project was a reunion for the two chefs, who had previously held the same rank.
"The Timpano team and I put so much passion into the reimagined menu," said Ferraro. "It was designed to be as approachable as it is serious and as classic as it is modern. Our dishes are intended to highlight quality with the freshness of the ingredients as the star - simplicity, and sophistication at its finest."
The introduction of more handcrafted and made-from-scratch techniques can be seen throughout the entire menu, with an in-house bakery and pastry program and handmade artisanal pasta created with Italian flour pasta. In addition, specialty farms will be emphasized by wild-harvested mushrooms from Colusa Farms and Wagyu beef produced from the rangelands of Queensland, Australia. Both of these products come from specialty farms.
Ferraro brought his family recipes to the table, including a red sauce passed down through the generations and an antipasti dish that bears his father's name and is known as Georgio's Meatballs. The Old School Skillet-Roasted Mussels will once again be included on the menu, except this time they will have a somewhat contemporary spin on them, thanks to Ferraro. Other traditional appetizers include Semolina-Dusted Calamari, Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms, which are made with fennel sausage, local mozzarella, and caprese crumbs; selections of cured meats; and stuffed portobello mushrooms made with fennel sausage.
At Timpano, modern allusions extend beyond the food on the plate, with shareable picture-worthy moments that continue the story of chic and modernity. The "Parm to Table Experience" consists of Uni Alfredo with an enhancement offering of Timpano branded caviar served on the most delicate Versace plates. Also included in the dining room gueridon service is Chef Whitfield's Tableside Bomboloni, which unveils an illuminated version of this rustic Italian favorite.
The dramatic color combinations of emeralds, aubergines, golds, monochromatic, and splashes of pink that characterize Timpano are a homage to the renowned Art Deco design that was popular in South Florida throughout the 1930s. A black-and-white checkerboard floor tile, flame stitch, metal-chain drapes, and customized wall coverings that bear Timpano's unique insignia –the peacock – are some daring geometrics used throughout the room as part of the design inspiration that complements it. The spectacular bar area is the most eye-catching feature of the dining room. It exudes an air of opulence and sophistication, which the permanent DJs match.
Mark Molina, a licensed sommelier, and the restaurant's general manager, together with Drew Romanos, the front-of-house manager, who came over from Abe & Louie's Boston, were responsible for the painstaking creation of the restaurant's wine and beverage program. On the menu, you'll find exquisite trademark drinks like Timpano's award-winning Espresso Martini and cocktails such as the Pecan & Pancetta Smoked Old Fashioned. An impressive list of curated whiskey that goes beyond the traditional options and an extensive wine list that includes well-known producers but also rewards the curious with hidden gems such as Arnaldo Caprai from Montefalco decanted into Vera Wang crystal. Both of these lists are curated by experts. In addition, the establishment features a private wine tasting area that may also be utilized as a dining room. This space features a cozy dining table, wine refrigerators with temperature controls, and audio-visual conveniences. Beyond the interiors is a stunning outdoor terrace known as Il Giardino, which takes its design cues from The Secret Garden and is equipped with mirrors and coverings that are resistant to the elements.
The Tavistock Restaurant Collection portfolio includes fifteen one-of-a-kind dining establishments, with locations across South and Central, Boston, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. Timpano is one of those singular dining establishments.
Timpano is located at 450 East Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. In a stylishly Italian manner, the restaurant's cuisine, ambiance, service level, and energy coexist harmoniously. The restaurant will open for dinner in August, and in the weeks to follow, will add lunch and brunch dining options. For more information, please visit the website.
