The Party
There was double reason to celebrate at this year’s Miami City Ballet gala. In addition to commemorating its spectacular 28th season, the company also feted the inaugural year of Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez, who took over the creative reins of the acclaimed troupe in 2013.

The Crowd
Can you say philanthropic? The Valentine’s night soiree at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts drew most of the MCB’s benefactors as well as plenty of fans. Among the patrons making the rounds were gala chairs Mike and Margaret Eidson, honorary gala chairs Toby Lerner Ansin and Sheila Wohl, and various members of the Codina family, who were this year’s gala honorees.

The Highlights
The evening began with a cocktail hour featuring splashes of red everywhere—many ladies took Cupid’s day to heart and opted for vibrant red gowns for the occasion. Afterward, guests headed into the Ziff Opera House for a suite of West Side Story, one of the ballet’s most acclaimed shows of the season. Prior to the Shiraz Events-catered dinner on the actual stage of the Ziff, actor George Chakiris (a 1962 Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for the film version of WSS) addressed the crowd and shared what playing the role of Bernardo in the movie meant to his life and career. –Photography by World Red Eye
