What an Opening!

| February 13, 2015 | Parties

Eagerly anticipated, the Shelborne Wyndham Grand Resort finally made its debut with a party that showcased what the property is all about and proved that sometimes good things (a $90 million restoration in this case) are worth the wait.

Hosted by co-owners Abraham and Nancy Galbut, Russell and Ronalee Galbut, and Paul and Dayssi Kanavos, the gathering was heavy on VIP locals. Among these were news anchor Belkys Nerey; TV personality Candela Ferro; and developer Jorge PĂ©rez and his wife, Darlene.

As a chill settled over Miami, the social action was hot at the Shelborne’s The Drawing Room & Lounge, where the evening began with mixologist Albert Trummer dazzling guests with his customary pyrotechnic mixology as well as a performance by Elastic Bond. As the cocktail party began to wind down, a select group of VIPs moved to one of the hotel’s banquet halls for a dinner by chef Masaharu Morimoto, who has a restaurant on-site. And it was Morimoto who gave the evening its most special touch when, as supper came to an end, he entered the room and shared a childhood song in Japanese with the crowd, then promptly exited the hall to much applause and cheers. –Photography by World Red Eye
